Sweet November
(c) 1995 by Jim Stringer
Though it seems simple now, then, it hadn’t occurred to me
Like the flash of an atomic bomb, a powerful love may not last eternity.
Like a sweet November followed by a cold December
She gave me thirty days of love then went her way.
It was like standing on a mountain top then finding myself a mile beneath the sea.
She came raging like a hurricane through the town of life I'd built so carefully.
Like a sweet November followed by a cold December
She gave me thirty days of love then went her way.
Not one of the seven wonders
those, no man could ever put asunder
The Taj Majal or the Wall of China
More like a fireball from the sky
Striking with the force of a meteor, I never had time to wonder why
Or count angels sitting on a pin. Was it true or just a clever lie?
Like a sweet November followed by a cold December
She gave me thirty days of love then went her way.
She's a question I could never answer
Striking like a hungry panther
Can't capture, tame or cage her
A love to wild to be kept inside.
Not like the timeless redwood or a river running to the sea
But more like a streak of lightning with a clap of thunder that sends you to your knees.
Like a sweet November followed by a cold December
She gave me thirty days of love then went her way.
